Wonderful book with wonderful recipes and photography HOWEVER the recipes are NOT exactly the same as in the restaurant. No surprise there I suppose? I wanted to learn how to make The Chia Seed Muffins, but the recipe in the book is soooo different from those on sale, yet STILL delicious. The book is beautifully bound and looks as good as the stores do.

it's got some yummy recipes, but I prefer his other book Alain Coumont's Communal Tablethe recipes are better and the story is enticing.

Got one for myself and one as a gift. Beautiful, easy to make recipes, a few that we've sampled when in NY at one of their establishments. Not fussy, not pretentious. Simple, good food. A great housewarming or hostess gift for a foodie.

best book ever. love every recipe I've tried - and I've tried 11 recipes so far. He has recipes for breads, breakfast, tartines, soups, salads, entrees, and desserts. Healthy ingredients. Quick cooking/preparation. Beautiful pictures. He doesn't pad and fluff the text up with superfluous nonsense like American Test Kitchen books. Actually, the descriptors are minimal. The bulk of the text lies in the instructions, which are great. There aren't paragraphs of impertinent narratives and comments that have no impact on your preparation of the meal, which is awesome. Kudos to Coumont for many reasons. It is a straightforward recipe book full of delicious, interesting combination of flavors you wouldn't have envisioned on your own, which enliven and broaden the palate. Simple servings can be delectable, healthy, satisfying, and yes...beautifully plated!! I'm so glad I happened on his restaurant in Philadelphia and discovered his goods and the cookbook. Dessert section is fantastic. I love baking. I have been repeatedly disappointed with American desserts and American-written dessert cookbooks. The European patissiers, I will more likely trust. Coumont is a genius.

Had opportunity to eat in their restaurant in Covent Garden, London. Good whole food recipes. Lots of soups. One bread that I need to do again as it didn't turn out quite right. Not sure if it's their recipe of my baking skill. The book is nearby to enjoy a recipe or a read.

Does not really contains the recipes I used to loved in France ... but it's a best of maybe not mine.

I really like this book because it has great pictures of the food and includes many vegetarian recipes. If you want to make wonderful bread from scratch, you can learn it here, including making a sourdough starter. I don't buy many cookbooks anymore, but I thought this one was worth it.

I bought this book because I love gazpacho from Le Pain Quotidien. Now that I've got their cookbook I can make it any time! In addition to gazpacho, I already tried their carrot salad and oatmeal with berries. All three dishes had easy-to-follow recipes and turned out yummy. Enjoy!

The poor mother of seven children, each named for a day of the week, goes off to market promising to return with individual gifts that each child has requested and admonishing them to lock the door to strangers and not to touch the fire. The gullible children are tricked into disobeying their mother by the witch, Heckedy Peg, who turns them all into various kinds of food. The mother can rescue her children only by guessing which child is the fish, the roast rib, the bread, etc., a trick she neatly performs by matching each kind of food with the gift that each child had requested (Monday asked for butter, so Monday is the bread, etc.). This story, deep and rich with folk wisdom, is stunningly illustrated with Don Wood's luminous paintings. He shows the countryside as a true fairy tale settingthe half-timbered village, thatched roof cottages, haymakers in the field, and the witch's hut in dark, dank woods. With variety of color and line he enhances every nuance of the text, from the individuality of the children and the stalwart mother to the unrelenting evil of the witch. A tour de force in every way. This is one of my favorite books. It is about a witch who turns a mother's children into food while they are out. The mother must know what child is what food in order to turn them back. It's not scary....more magical. Audrey Wood is such a wonderful writer. Don Wood writes similar books. They are so vidid that they almost look real. I loved this book and it will be a treasure to save forever. My children now in their 30's are reading it to their young children. It does not have to be a Halloween book. I would suggest 3 years and up.

Okay- so I was nervous about buying this book for my 3 year old because of the reviews that said the book is scary. It is not. Lol not in my opinion and not in my toddlers opinion either. This book is a fairy tale, super fun, sort of dark, easy and fun to read (and my son loves my heckedy peg voice) and it has amazing illustrations. Very beautiful. My son frequently walks around the house now saying "come on sweet chickens!" Haha which is a phrase heckedy peg says. After Christmas we read this every night for at least a month. Great book! Such a relief from the old happy go lucky standard toddler rhyming books. Blah I get tired of those- but this I could read over and over. I was so happy my son loves it, and I really don't think it's as "dark" as everyone makes it out to be- great buy!

AMAZING book! I only remember a handful of books from my childhood and this is one of them. The children are named after the days of the week (kids get practice hearing them, older children can predict what the rest of the children are named). Spoiler alert- the witch turns them into different foods and the mom has to correctlyguess which one is each child. Easy to make interactive with a child and have them help guess which food is which child.The illustrations are so beautiful and moving! Each one is a work of art. You can read it multiple times and still discover new details in the artwork.A few people said their book arrived damaged. Mine arrived in perfect condition. No issues for me!Love it!

This was one of my favorite books when I was a very young girl, to this day it is still one of my favorites. I bought this so I could pass it on to my kids. I adore the determination of a mothers love to get her kids back from the wicked witch. The paintings in this book was one of the main reasons why I have an extreme love for oil based paintings. I also bought the book "King Bidgood's in the Bathtub" the same time and it is just as amazing as Heckedy Peg. I just wish I could of bought Heckedy Peg in Hardcopy as I did with "King Bidgood's in the Bathtub." I bought the book in paperback and sadly it looked used and not brand new. I had to take a star off because of that but other than that the book itself is just wonderful.

I loved this book as a child and once i had my own - it was a must purchase. I realized that once I ordered, I still had my copy but I'm grateful to have two copies. The story is about love of a mother and knowing her children. It's fun and not scary and I just love it. It's a classic in my home.

Loved this book as a child, bought it here to share with my 6 year old son and his entire kindergarten class. He (and they) were just as enchanted as I remember being, and afterward, all enjoyed imitating Heckedy Peg's voice and hobbling around on their "peg" legs.

The story is great, but my copy is falling apart at the seams, has rips, places are taped, and there is writing throughout. How they thought this was in sellable condition, I will never know. Love the story, but my copy is a joke.

This book was purchased for a grandchild and was a book I had purchased and read to my children when they were young. I bought the book origionally for the beautiful illustrations; but it is also a very good fairy tale. The mother in the story knows and loves her children and is able at the end of the story to turn everything about because she knows them so well. My youngest daughter, who has two children of her own said that this was a book that I should make sure each of my married adult children had for their children. So I will need to purchase two more before the year is out. This was a much loved book when ours were young and for the grandchildren that have it it is proving to be special for them too.

Let me preface this review by saying that I am a science teacher. I have flipped through so many books with science activities and projects, and after a while they all start to look the same. Not so with this one. Sure there are some of the same timeless ideas (volcano? check!) but the presentation is great. And there are some ideas I haven't seen before (making your own bath bombs?) The book is lovely to look at, with some great accessible material for kids of all ages. I plan to do most of these with my 4 year old, but teenagers would have a lot of fun with this as well.

While it looks beautiful, there are hardly any interesting experiments. I think there are only 2 that I bookmarked to try. I expected more creative and interesting ideas from the smithsonian. Perhaps next time worry less about beautiful photography and more about the content.

This book is so cute and I coupled it with an idea I piggy backed from a celebrity to make a unique gift. I purchased two cloth sacks and bought the ingredients for two of the experiments and separated them in the bags and also put the name of the experiment on the bag and the page number. Such a cool idea because once they get the whole present they are ready to go for at least two. I also chose two of them that had an ingredient which you could find in some of the others like wood skewers, rubber bands, glue, etc.

Exactly as described! I bought this after seeing Kendall Jenner’s gift to her niece and I just loved the idea! I bought this book in order to replicate Kendall’s idea and while I love it and again, everything was as described, I’m slightly disappointed in the book itself, hence the 4 stars, only because I wasn’t thrilled with the experiments offered. For the price I paid though, I can’t complain too much. Target and Toys R Us sell this book for double the price of Amazon, so overall, I’m happy with the purchase and I do recommend it!

If I could get a by the case discount, I would. I bought these for every birthday my child got invited to this year. He's 6 and this book is amazing. I bought it for him originally and have bought 7 more since. Very interactive. Great learning tool while being fun. These ideas can be found elsewhere but were put together well with bright pictures in a good collection. Highly recommend.

We bought this book for our niece who loves everything science. She loves it! It is such a great book. It has a lot of projects you can do with household items most people will have already. The instructions are so easy to understand and there are pictures for everything! This is a great book to have around for snow days and weekends!

I originally checked this book out from the library for my 8 year old, and then had to go ahead and buy it for her after renewing it twice because she did not want to return it. It has lots of fun projects for kids and great pictures showing how to complete them, along with some child-accessible science about what is happening. There's also at least a few you will most likely have supplies on hand to do, so not everything has to be a run to the store just to try out one or two projects. Overall a really fun book for the budding scientist and curious child.

Bought as a gift for a 7 year-old. She loved it and immediately went through the book to bookmark experiments to try. Paired it with a disposable child-sized lab coat and goggles and it was a hit!

As Mitsi returns to school after the New Year, she finds herself alone. Separated by her friends and classmates at school, Mitsi finds comfort in her dog Dash and an unlikely neighbor. Soon Mitsi and her family are forced into an incarceration camp. Leaving everything they owned behind, Mitsi is forced to leave Dash with her friendly neighbor. With the help of the neighbor and a surprise twist, Mitsi remains in contact with Dash. Even in the hardest of times, Dash's letters bring hope that the war will end and life can return to normal. This must read piece of historical fiction is sure to touch your heart. Dash will have you feeling outraged, grabbing a tissue, and reaching for the phone to call an old friend. Dash is a perfect follow up to Duke (another great new perspective from WW II) and must read for students who love dogs and historical fiction.

I got this book for my 10 year old daughter for her Battle of the Books read. This book was favored by probably 80% of the group kids... out of the 20 books they read. It was my daughter's favorite.

Fantastic author. Can't go wrong with anything from Kirby Larson! My daughter loves animals, so I nabbed this for her. We have read other titles from Kirby Larson now and impressed with her writing. She weaves in historical facts so the reader doesn't even realize he/she is learning!

Kirby Larson does an excellent job of intertwining a difficult time in US history with the loyalty of both human and canine friendships.

The Newbery Honor writer has nailed it again. This is a charming mid-grade book that teaches upper elementary students about the Japanese internment using the dog Dash who had to be left behind. Highly recommended.

My 10 year old daughter's favourite book!

I ordered this for my lifelong Japanese friend who was sent to Minnadoka as a child. She loved it and sometimes shed tears while reading.

This story cracked all of us up throughout the month of November. The rhyming in the story is done really well, and it's just a fun story to read. We read it countless times - my 13 year old down to my 2 year old! I read the other reviews about the font being too small and hard to read, and that is true. I think if it were a different font the smaller size wouldn't be that big of a deal, but the font and smaller font size do make it a bit tricky. Font choice and size aside, this is a great book that I would recommend to others wanting to build a Thanksgiving book library.

The story itself is great. HOWEVER, this is a TINY book (paperback version) and if you're using it as a read aloud, it's nearly impossible to read the TINY type and show a classroom pictures. I'd say the font type, which makes it even more difficult to read, is maybe 9 point. The kids loved the story, but we were all disappointed in how tiny the pictures and text were,

I ordered this book because my teacher friend used it for an activity that we both do. I ordered it and it is about half the size of hers. I am disappointed that it is only 8 in X 7 in. The original copy of this book is at least twice the size. This book is too small to really even be used as a read aloud to a class. Individual (reading to a child in your lap) would be alright.

My adult children had a copy of this when they were growing up, but sadly it was lost in a fire back in 2009. We became nostalgic and so I ordered this. I was a little surprised that the book was smaller than the previous version we had, but the artwork and story are exactly the same. Still a great children's classic, perfect for the lead up to thanksgiving.

Their plan is foiled by the clever and tricky turkey.It is such a cute book! I bought the Kindle version for my kids and we read it on Thanksgiving. If you missed out on this book that day, you will have to pay a little more, but it is still a bargain at $3.99. Definitely worth the money!The Illustrations: Loved the illustrations. The artwork was quirky and silly, just like the story. The cleverness of the turkey is beautifully rendered in these pictures.

I bought this book sight unseen and it was a huge winner at our house with my two preschoolers. Pete the Turkey seems to be the dumbest turkey in town when he gets agrees to be a turkey model for the hungry townspeople around Thanksgiving...but he outsmarts everyone and escapes to the beach with his "modeling fee". You will chuckle and your kids will love his craftiness! The story is written in cute rhyming and the illustrations really add to the humor of the story. This is one we will keep and read over and over for years to come.
