As a QUEEN FANATIC, I had to have this book when I saw Brian May announce it. Amazon was cheaper than any other outlet. The book arrived in perfect condition and I couldn't be happier. The book is an amazing collectors piece. Great photos, the OWL viewfinder works wonderfully well with the 3D images. I'm so glad I purchased this, and will cherish it forever.
If you are a fan of Queen, I think you'll really enjoy this book. There are many books about Queen, but three things set this one apart. One, it's written by Brian May himself so you can trust the authenticity of its content. Two, the photos are from Brian's own personal archive and a majority of them were never seen before. And three, most of the photos are stereoscopic images, meaning you can view them in 3-D with the OWL Viewer that comes with the book. I'm a huge fan of Queen and I genuinely enjoyed experiencing this book. The photos were either taken by Brian himself or someone close to the band, so you get a real close look at some fun moments. Check it out!
I've been a fan of the band Queen since the early 1970s and knew Brian May had brilliantly conceived of and built his own guitar The Red Special--a one-of-a-kind guitar capable of making sounds no other guitar can. I've been impressed that he went back to university and got doctorate in astrophysics, but when I learned he'd created an inexpensive stereoscopic viewer called The Owl, I couldn't believe it.Then to hear Brian May has been taking stereoscopic 3D photos since childhood and he has TONS of 3D stereoscope image of Queens unguarded moments... I had to have it! In an age of shoddy craftsmanship, this box is impressive, the hard cover book is gorgeous, the Victorian sleeve for The Owl viewer is impressive, but the experience of going through the intimate images in 3D with Brian's memories in print is breathtaking! So young, so talented, and to see John with his camera (very nice) and Freddie with his Polaroid (very instant) and be on tour with them with images you want to put your hand into...well done Dr. Brian May! Thank you for going to all the trouble and clearly sparing no expense with the quality!Note: I have had Lasik on one eye, so I don't see in stereo (1 for distance, 1 for reading) so I was afraid I wouldn't be able to see with The Owl, but all I have to do is lift my face away from it a bit and Poof! Magic!
This is such a neat book. If you like Queen, this book is a treasuretrove of stories and pictures, and the little viewer device it comes with truly does cause the pictures to pop off the page. I am taking my time, reading Brian's stories behind the pictures. Really a neat book for fans!
This is very cool; I thought by now all known photographs had been released. This huge book, unfortunately, has to be kept in its second layer of plastic wrap, so you don't scratch the holographic Freddie on the cover. Even in the adverts, I found previously unseen photos. Freddie heavy, as expected, I would have liked to see more of John and Roger; they were largely ignored in the 1970's. Well worth the price, for a serious Queenie.
Purchased as a gift after hearing a interview on NPR. Lots of interesting tidbits throughout and very cool pictures. The OWL viewer takes some finagling to work for you (and it seems like everyone will have their own “sweet spot†on it) but once you have it set up it really works!
This book gives a unique experience, being able to see Brian, Freddie, ... moments, places. This is the closes to being there, in those moments, watching.Brian May is amazing and these pictures are a real treasure.If you like Queen, you'll love this!
If you like Queen, you'll enjoy this photo journal. At least half- maybe more- of the pictures were new to me and I've seen and read everything I could find about the band. One thing, I would have liked more pictures of Freddie!
