I expected traditional atlas information about topography, climate, population, and locations of cities, states, countries and other political subdivisions. The NGGA tries to reinvent what an atlas does. It contains interesting information, but not information in which I have any particular interest. The maps themsevles are not detailed enough. The effort to reinvent itself comes off as contrived and it doesn't do just to the traditional atlas.

We purchased this atlas hoping for something current and informative, and this atlas definitely delivered. The maps are excellent, the information current, and the graphs and texts are relevant. We were pleasantly surprised by an area featuring flag, population, and statistics for most countries. The only downfall we've seen so far is that a few of the maps "disappear" into the fold of the book, but not many, and not very much of the maps.All in all, we are very happy with the quality and content of this atlas, especially for the price. Excellent buy!

beautiful atlas, very helpfulwe found a small mistake on page 118: the 3 Baltic countries - (north to south order) Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania are printed in the wrong order - (North to south direction) Lithuania, Estonia, Latvia.on page 119 the order is OK, but on page 118 not...

Very nice atlas, with brief almanac-like data on each country (population, square miles, average income, etc.). This has been a great resource to have to put international news into perspective, and to update my knowledge. The world has changed since I first learned geography in junior high school! Some maps are printed across 2 pages, and the page-break sections are not easy to read.

Just exactly what we wanted! The organization is what sets this atlas apart. Others combine topographic, informational and geographic maps in the same section so it's impossible to look up, say, two neighboring countries on separate pages. The pages are continuously numbered, so you can find anything by checking the index. Plenty of detail, up-to-date, interesting in its statistical sections, the right size for under the coffee table--every household should have one!

ONLY THING IS....I really am thrilled with this atlas! It is very easy to use in that it is medium-sized and not too heavy to lift yet not too small to see. It has a moderate number of maps (an expert might like more and larger with more detail), a wonderful section on World Thematics and a wonderful Appendix. There are a lot of fun facts.The only negative is that a big corner of the first page was accidentally folded down during shipping.Other than that, it looks great on the coffee table when I am not perusing it.

My husband loves maps, and has never had a World Atlas. So I was trying to think what he would like, we are older and retired and not much that we need that we don't already have. So I was doing something and looked up and he was checking out the location of a new story. and the light went on, I gave him the Atlas yesterday and He is enjoying it very much. I would say it was a winner.

I bought this for my 8th grade daughter, who loves maps and geography. She loves everything about it, and is frequently found reading it. Lots of information, and perfect for someone who loves to delve into details and learn a broad amount of basic info about different places in the world. Photos are top-notch. I'm sure by college she'll upgrade to a higher end atlas, but this one is worth having on its own.

When we meet Sarah at the opening of this novel, it's the spring of 1861, and she has been living as Frank Thompson, a traveling book salesman, for more than three years. Writing in the first person, Sarah fills the reader in on her back story growing up on a farm in New Brunswick, Canada, with a cruel and abusive father; when her father is about to force her into an unwanted marriage, Sarah cuts her hair, dresses as a boy, and runs away, ending up in the United States.But when the war breaks out, the teenaged Sarah wants to be a part of history, and enlists in the Union Army as Private Frank Thompson, Army nurse. An accomplished shot and rider, she is especially skilled at hiding her female parts when she "does her business," and no one questions her sex or her ability as a soldier. Moss does an excellent job portraying the tedium and occasional terror of a soldier's existence through Sarah's eyes, as she wonders if she will be able to measure up in battle. When the Union loses the first Battle of Bull Run, Sarah/Frank no longer needs to wonder; she's running around helping the doctors amputate limbs, writing letters to loved ones, and carrying out the last wishes of dying soldiers, as the reader gets a close-up view of the primitive nature of medical care in the 19th century.But of course Sarah is a woman, and living in close proximity with so many eligible young men, the inevitable happens--she develops romantic feelings for a fellow soldier, fantasizing about him. Eventually her feelings are so strong, she asks for a reassignment, next serving as a postmaster delivering letters to the troops. Soon she is recruited as a Union spy, where her skill at disguises comes in very handy. She even "disguises" herself as a woman for one of her assignments!While there are hundreds of documented cases of women disguising themselves as men to fight in the Civil War, Sarah was the only woman to be recognized by Congress as an honorably discharged soldier, with rights to back pay and pension, and the only woman allowed to join the association for Civil War veterans. At her death she was granted a military funeral and buried in a cemetery for Civil War veterans.Moss' well-researched novel is based in part on Sarah Edmonds' own memoir, as well as many other sources on women in the Civil War and the Civil War in general. Moss includes extensive back matter, including background on Sarah Edmonds, brief biographies of Union Army officers, a brief Civil War timeline, which includes annotations for battles in which Frank/Sarah participated, and selected bibliography.This is a terrific novel for middle schoolers or high schoolers, male or female. It offers great action, suspense, twists, and star-crossed romance that should intrigue even reluctant readers of historical fiction.

My wife enjoys reading about "petticoat soldiers" (women who posed as men to serve in the Civil War). Told in the first person, this book is historical fiction, in the genre of James Michener. The characters - including the main - are real, but the dialog and fine details of the story are fiction.Enjoy!

This book tells the story of Bobbi Gibb and the first woman to run the Boston Marathon. The officials wouldn't let her register, and so she decided to run unofficially to prove that women were indeed physiologically capable of running 26.2 miles. In today's world, such ignorance seems preposterous, but this just shows how far we've come.I was moved to tears by Ms. Pimentel's text that captured Bobbi's love for running, and her determination to prove that women can do more than people care to believe. And Ms. Archer's illustrations added to the beauty of the story as well as the emotion. I highly recommend this book to anyone, but especially for those wanting to learn about women's struggle to be seen, heard, and understood.

This is an awesome book! It is a great story told very well. The drawings are amazing as well. I actually bought this for a girlfriend of mine who is running in the Boston Marathon coming up. It would also be great for any kids that are interested in running or that you want to get interested in running. It’s hard to believe sometimes that there actually has been a lot of change in perceptions of what women can do; this story was just 50 years ago!

I love picture book biographies.This is a fabulous story of one person overcoming all odds.

We live near Boston and watch it all the time. I was actually At the marathon the year the bomb went off. The police told us to leave immediately which we did. We caught the train back to Newburyport.

Love this book!

Annette has written another wonderful book, that is both visually, intellectually and emotionally engaging to its readers! I am an elementary school librarian and my students loved listening to Girl Running! The story runs smoothly and is paced like a good race, with amazing illustrations that will leave both children and adults in awe! We loved Mountain Chef too- which I read to my students in grades 2 through 4. Girl Running would be suitable for students as young as Kindergarten and upwards. One of our teachers bought one for her boyfriend and his mom that just ran the Boston Marathon too!

This beautiful book by Annette Bay Pimentel and illustrated by Micha Archer, is the true story of the first girl to run the Boston Marathon. Women were not allowed to register for the Boston Marathon in 1966. It wasn't believed they could run the 26.2 mile distance. But Bobbi Gibb knew she could do it! She ran the race unregistered for three years in a row. Follow Bobbi as she trains across the country, often in nursing shoes, through gorgeously illustrated pages and fascinating text. The Boston Marathon (first event in 1897) finally allowed women to register for the race for the first time in 1972. Bobbi Gibb inspired and paved the way for future woman marathoners. GIRL RUNNING is a delightful commemoration of her accomplishments.

Always had a love for reading about who and what happened to a great piece of jewelry, the historical value and the owners that had to have the piece. Interestingly enough jewelry is the one thing that when made well and has a great value is never going to go out of style. This book gives you a historical view on the piece of jewelry and reason why it was so sought after. If not for anything, it is an interesting read for any one who is interested in not only the piece of jewelry, but the historical value behind it. A must for anyone who loves looking and owning a great piece of jewelry or even imagining it is great.

Wonderful book with pics and information I've not read before. Saw it in Majesty Mag ad for about $138 so was thrilled to find something affordable that is so enjoyable. Will donate to local library eventually so it continues to be in circulation.

This is an excellent book as it not only provides stunning pictures of the jewels but it gives great background stories on the jewels and their origin and the fate of the original owners in many cases.

Mary Shelley was born in London in 1797, daughter of William Godwin and Mary Wollstonecraft, famous radical writers of the day. This was supposed to be the original 1818 version of the book, but it isn’t. It’s a bizarre copy - there are no publishing notes at all. It’s missing the Preface. I compared the first few chapters to an online version of the 1818 book and I noticed differences in Letter 3 where a whole paragraph was added. I would need to check the 1831 version to see if that is what this book is. I should return it but it was $4 and not worth the effort.

This book was one of the biggest surprises for me! Absolutely NOTHING what I expected. When someone says word "Frankenstein", you think about a lab, a mad proffesor, some lightning buzzing into the bolts inside monster's head. Drop all this imagination! This classical book had nothing of it! :O Maybe that's why I was so amazed. If I didn't have all those expectations, maybe my rating would be lower, but now, damn, I liked it a lot! Since I have so much to say, I'll just drop it into a list, of good and bad things :)1) It's awesome that Amazon is giving free ebooks for classical literature like this! Thanks, Amazon! And what a surprise it was for me, that this Kindle edition is the real original "Frankenstein", but audiobook narrated by George Guidhall is of a later edition (which was edited by the author herself, when her book became famous). So reading those two books where more like reading two separate books for me - one ebook and one audiobook, with quite a lot of changes, even so major as who Elizabeth was to Victor - a real cousin, or just a girl taken from street! :O2) As I said, I have expected this book to be absolutely different! A horror story, about making a man from different body parts. Actually this only took a few pages of the book. All the book was Victor's thoughts about what he had done, creatures thoughts about humankind, and 3) a lot a lot A LOT of words misery, wretchedness and countenance :D My oh my, I have never read so many same QQing thoughts in my life! :D This book could be a good 5 star if Victor's thoughts weren't so TERRIBLY repetitive. He said he feels misery/is miserable/life's misery at least 135 times (just did a search in my Kindle). I won't even count other of his cryings. I should be ashamed of making fun of his inner tortures. Victor Frankenstein had a really difficult life, but I'm not if it was a good idea by the author to write it in such a repetitive way! but on the other hand - it was an absolutely different style from the books I usually read, so also a good thing.4) Never ever don't you dear call a man-made-man a "Frankenstein"! He didn't have a name! Frankenstein was his creator. But the creature was just that - a creature. And what a surprise he was! All my life I thought of Frankenstein's creature to be a mindless monster, with bolts in his head, making ugly sounds and walking like a zombie. That's what those movies show! But this was such a mistake of mine! :O Creature was one of the most intelligent characters in the story! His ability to deduct, to learn, to feel... he was amazing! The story creature told about his first year of life was so heartgripping that I felt so fond of him, so sorry for him... Sadly later he changed.. Loniness makes people (and other creatures) do bad things... :( But still.. he was not a mindless zombie. He was extremely sensitive being.. With emotions on extremities - both good and bad. But wouldn't we be like that, if we didn't have parents and comfort of other people to learn from?I highly recommend this book to everyone who wants to read some intricate English language, but who has enough patience to suffer though all characters' repetitive sufferings (pun intended).This book is emotional, but not in a romantic way. It makes You think about creators responsibility against the creation. And most of all, it shows how Your decisions can change Your whole life!

If you're reading this review, you only have one question. You're not looking for a book review, you already know it's a classic. You already know this is the most original, and one of the best, and best-written horror stories in literature. You may or may not like the story, but that's a matter of personal taste. A lot of people don't like Shakespeare, but no one questions whether he was a good writer or not. If you don't like the writing style, it's because you aren't familiar with the English of this period. Nearly eighty years before Stoker's "Dracula" ( an idea stolen from Polidori's "The Vampyre", which was an idea stolen from LeFanu's "Carmilla"), this most-original horror masterpiece was born. So, your only question is, "Is this really the uncensored 1818 version? Because I've only seen one other verified version, and it's over twenty dollars in paperback. All the others claiming to be the 1818 version have been disproved." YES, as far as I can tell, it is. The only preface is Shelley's own original. There is no introduction, no commentary or editorial credits whatsoever. There are no illustrations, and the spelling and language have not been edited. Have a good thesaurus handy. So, here it is, the author's original script, no frills, for a bargain price. Which is exactly what I was looking for.

Do not buy this (October 22, 2017) Kindle edition of Frankenstein. The book is riddled with typographic errors and the wording is off in many places. Some sentences don't flow or even make sense. It appears a bad OCR tool was used to translate the original Frankenstein novel to this bastardization. I had to put down the book since it was simply unreadable. As an alternative, I downloaded the open source version (legally free) from Gutenberg here: http://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/84. I'm now reading and enjoying Frankenstein on its 200th anniversary.

I met Nathan during my college days when he still was the CEO of Heyo. I knew he was inspiration since the day I met him. This book is totally a Nathan Latka original and this is the new “Four Hour Workweek”. Warning though, it is addicting. I am not sure how long I’ve been reading it now and the only thing that is making me put it down is the dreaded workday tomorrow.

The author is not greedy, and is in fact, extremely generous, and does not hold back on the knowledge he imparts. I've barely made it to half of the book and already I'm here gushing over this book because it's an absolute gem. Nathan gets to the point quick, shows proof, and best of all, show you not just what to do but how to do it, in explicit detail. To say it's actionable is an understatement.What I really love about the book is the incredible lessons, paired with a grounding in theory and lessons from past masters, then consolidating them into a cohesive package that delivers what it promises. Everything that can be taught to you is taught to you, and you need only apply it. If you fail at these, it's only because honestly, you didn't apply them.Not only are the lessons direct, but some can indeed be counterintuitive, and not for the sake of shocking readers, but because it really makes sense. The foundation (like building systems, etc.) are invaluable, and it's like all the greatest and best lessons in the many books he recommends are not distilled but packed into the pages of this book, so you can benefit from all of them.I seldom enjoy and learn from a source like this, and so glad to have found it.

When I first read the 4 hour work week I was enamored with the ideas in it, but there was more in the way of generalities and now about 13 years later, things have changed in the world. Nathan's book being hot off the press offers tactical boots on the ground howto's for many different ways to make money and to turn your preconceived notions on their ear. This book doesn't look like much of a story, but has more of examples of how to do anything from buying in real estate to buying SaaS companies. This book is so full of resources like Entrepreneur groups to join, and best books for different relevant topics. I feel like this is a brain dump from Nathan, and it's all gold. I was so surprised to see even an index in the back. Such a time saver. Thanks for writing this book. I'm looking forward to putting this playbook into use!

The book is great. I have already used it multiple times while working on my careplans for nursing school.

As a hospital pharmacist, this is the book I have at my side at all times. Gives important information on infusion rates, stability, and usual dosages and concentrations. This information can be found elsewhere of course but I have been accustomed to looking here first.

When I was ordering this edition of Gahart's IV reference book, I noticed that it was the 18th edition. I have or have had most all the editions published! I guess I've been a nurse a long time..... I have worked in the Intensive Care and Emergency Department settings and have always found this book an excellent resource! Great for graduate/new nurses!

As an ER RN, in my opinion this is the quintessential referance for anyone who requires fast, comprehensive information about IV meds. This yearly updated book is laid out alphabetically by generic drug name with multiple indexed cross referencing by classification and brand names. The staff in the ER consider it an indispensible tool on all relevent aspects of IV meds and their appropriate application. Awareness = improved patient care and safety.

I am a pharmacist with the Cleveland Clinic and need to have a reliable, thorough, and handy reference available at all times. This book is one of the best resources I have come by thus far in my career. It is a must have! Quick and easy look up to a wealth of organized information. All hospital pharmacists should not go without it!

This book is the best I have read ever (next to the Bible!) I have read many books in this genre, but Rachel's passion and genuine faith really shines brightest through her gifted ability to write about her life experiences (many very hard and painful) and how God love and goodness help her and others by taking just "One More Step." Through excerpts of her favorite hymns, a very helpful study guide with thoughtful and deep thought-provoking questions and a writing style that is filled with such love and grace Rachel has written a beautiful life giving book that points to God's glorious kingdom! This is a book you will want to have with you always...right next to your Bible, a cup of coffee, favorite chocolates and kleenex as you won't get through it without tears at some point. This book has helped me so much to deal with so many hard issues in my life and has helped pave the way to free me from the burden I have been carrying. What a beautiful heart Rachel has sharing such personal trial and heartbreak and the freedom she has found through the steps she has taken to live life in spite of really hard circumstances, one at a time, while honoring and trusting God. I am forever blessed by her gift of writing and sharing this book!

Rachel writes about her life experiences and how she managed to get through them. This is a book about true life experiences and is well written and very emotionally charged. It is a great read for everyone whether they've had times of grief, loss or they want to read about a wonderful family who loves God and each other. She relates her difficulties going through a divorce, a terminal diagnosis for her oldest daughter and how she coped with the loss. There are also exercises and Bible verses to help you along the way. Definitely worth purchasing this great book from an awesome author! There is also a free journal that you can download from Rachel's website to aid you as you go through the book.

This book was part of a Bible Study I participated in on Rachel Wojo's blog. It honestly could not have come at a better time for me to read. This book is a powerful read if you are going through tough times, or if your faith and trust in the Lord is wavering. At the end of each chapter Rachel offers 2 sections to help move you forward, one is called "Pillars of Truth to Lean On", which is Bible scripture specifically relating the chapter you just read. The second section is called "Stepping Stone", which offers a few things to do to dig deeper into that chapter.I highly recommend this book for anyone who is facing or has faced a life struggle. Regardless of your situation, this book will help you find a way to take one more step.

Actually 4 1/2 stars! I likes it and appreciate it, but considering it hits on those hard times, which many of us have lived thorugh and will continue to experience, it's hard to say you love it, when it brings to mind the times of our lives.One More Step is one of those books everyone needs, if not now maybe some time in your life when the chips are down and down and down. We all go through trying times. Rachel reminds us that we can make it through, maybe not with panache, aplomb, Queenly Calm. but we can make it! And it's okay if we fall apart, we don't have to be perfect, everyone needs a little help now and then BUT we need to keep going, keep believing and keep trusting Him! Something she helps us to see in this book.We need to remember God is up there, that He is for us and That "I can do ALL things though Christ who strengthens me!"

This was worth the wait!Ethan and Angie, Rachael and Peter, Jo, and Allen. We learn so much more about everyone and meet Allen for the first time. Jo is still a mystery that I can't wait to figure out. There are some ideas in my head but we know nothing for sure. I want to learn more about Gus too! And the owl, aaaahhhh so many questions still. I can't wait for book 3.

Just as good as the first book, this one kept me hooked from beginning to end. While the first book focused on Rachel, the second book focus on Angie the middle sister. As the sisters hunt for a way to free Ethan from his curse, Angie herself is cursed. Can they find away to brake both curses and will Aunt Lydia reappearance cause a rift between the sisters

Great hook! Stayed up way later than I should have last night reading and I was at the beginning of the book. I'll update when I finish reading.

Perfect continuation of the series. Can't wait for book 3. I read this one nonstop all the way through.

Many fewer are familiar with the National Security Agency, even though it has been more important to American espionage in recent years than its better-known counterpart. The NSA is responsible for much of the intelligence gathering done via technology such as satellites and the Internet. Its home office in Maryland "contains what is probably the largest body of secrets ever created." Little was known about the agency's confidential culture until veteran journalist James Bamford blew the lid off in 1982 with his bestseller The Puzzle Palace. Still, much remained in the shadows. In Body of Secrets, Bamford throws much more light on his subject--and he reveals loads of shocking information. The story of the U-2 crisis in 1960 is well known, including President Eisenhower's decision to tell a fib to the public in order to protect a national-security secret. Bamford takes the story a disturbing step forward, showing how Eisenhower "went so far as to order his Cabinet officers to hide his involvement in the scandal even while under oath. At least one Cabinet member directly lied to the committee, a fact known to Eisenhower." Even more worrisome is another revelation, from the Kennedy years: "The Joint Chiefs of Staff drew up and approved plans for what may be the most corrupt plan ever created by the U.S. government. In the name of anticommunism, they proposed launching a secret and bloody war of terrorism against their own country in order to trick the American public into supporting an ill-conceived war they intended to launch against Cuba." Body of Secrets is an incredible piece of journalism, and it paints a deeply troubling portrait of an agency about which the public knows next to nothing. A wide ranging book that covers the activities, both internal and external, of the NSA from the early 1950s through the following half century. Recent revelations that the NSA seems to be spying on virtually everyone on the planet comes as little surprise to anyone who has read this book - the NSA has been a power unto itself seemingly unaccountable to Congress since the agency's inception and the extent of its technological spying tool kit, something Bamford goes into great detail about, is somewhat terrifying.The best parts of the book are about the agency's involvement in certain geopolitical events. The most damning was Israel's murderous attack on the USS Liberty during the '67 War, including the failure of Congress, or anyone else in D.C., to hold the Israelis to account to this day. Eisenhower's use of electronic eavesdropping and over flights of the USSR is covered in great detail, including a seemingly very provocative flight of multiple RB-47 aircraft over the Soviet's northern regions, a move that could easily have been interpreted as a surprise nuclear attack - had the Soviets had radars in that region, that they didn't. Ike comes across as a bit of a madman with his constant probing of Soviet air defenses and here I'd be a bit critical of what the author left out: Eisenhower did not believe the reports he was getting from the U.S. military about the Soviet's bomber or ICBM nuclear capabilities; the country simply didn't have the economic capacity to carry out such an effort, something that was becoming increasingly clear from photographic over flights of various air bases and missile sites. Once Ike had sufficient proof about the inadequacies of the Soviet threat he planned on launching a peace offensive, basically telling the Soviets to get real. One more mission was required to make this case, and it was flown by Gary Powers. One final nail in the coffin of our Vietnam disaster was the total disregard Westmoreland & Co had for the NVA's signals intelligence program, one that was quite sophisticated. The U.S. military refused to believed the gooks had this capacity and broadcast the details of upcoming missions, including B-52 strikes, in the clear with disastrous results.

Extremely interesting book about NSA and it's roots. Having been part of that program back in the 60's while serving with the USAFSS made it pretty fascinating reading, learned much more that I ever knew about that branch of the USAF and how they tied into NSA.

this book opened up my eyes about so many events that went on with our government and that of others. the truth shall set you free and this book helps clear up a lot of questions many of us have had about what actually happened with regards several incidents regarding intelligence mishaps in vietnam and korea and israel. this book filled in many blanks about organizations many of us worked in yet still did not know the big picture.

An illuminating look behind the curtain at an agency that was unknown for so long. Bamford's history of the NSA reveals so many AMAZING secrets that were classified until shortly before his book was published:- Eisenhower frequently sent fighter/bomber formations into Soviet airspace to see how far they could get before being detected, and how quickly the Soviet air defenses could react. This provocative action led to aircraft being shot down on several occasions before they could get out of Soviet airspace, and lives were lost. This finally ended when Gary Powers' U-2 was shot down.-The reason we wanted the UN in New York? To make spying on everyone easier!-The USS Liberty saw Israelis massacre 150 Egyptian POWs... so the Israelis tried to sink it, fully knowing it was a U.S. gov't ship.All in all, a very readable, very informative book. While every page doesn't have jaw-dropping secrets from US history, there are enough to ensure you'll have fun while learning a bit of history.One excellent point of education was the many disasters in our history resulting from agencies not sharing information. One thing Bush did right was making sure that something like 9/11 will never happen again because of this inter-service rivalry.A very enjoyable book. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is that it's not as cutting edge as when I first read it. (Body of Secrets was published within one-two years of many classified documents being made public.)

Ok, so I've got a couple gripes about this book. First off, the title: Anatomy of the Ultra-Secret National Security Agency. This book is much more of an operational history, rather than an anatomy of the agency. It contains almost no mention of any detailed organizational structure. About the only anatomy you get are the basic divisions. Communist Russian, Communist Non-Russian, and Non-Communist. Also I thought there would be much more in-depth technical detail. This however was also not the case. The second gripe is the recycling of material used in The Puzzle Palace. I already own a copy of that book, and have no real desire to re-read information I already own. The book is well written, I just wish it was more of what it bills itself to be.
