I've been in youth ministry for 29 years. I highly recommend this book to parents and those who work in youth ministry. Even when we know it is by grace we are saved and sanctified, we function with our kids with a law or lay-down-the-rules mentality especially regarding sex. Jessica and Joel help parents navigate Biblical conversations with our kids that show them the goodness of sex in God's context, that we are fellow sinners in this area not ones to condemn, and the amazing, glorious love of our Savior who equips and forgives us.

I haven’t finished this read yet, but so far this is an excellent resource and incredibly biblical! Just what I was looking for!

This is definitely a book to have on hand. It is full of real life examples and I appreciate the vulnerability of the authors being so open with their children that they feel safe to ask anything. This book is a book one wants to have well before the child is ready to talk for it is a lengthy read. They go through the Bible and are not “babyfying” anything. They touch on issues that are serious such as rape and infidelity—which I do appreciate that they line up to people in the Bible. They show the honest truth of how we are all sexually broken and that we have a sin and live in a world with a sin nature.With the stark truths they also have positive teaching points that refer to how sex is positive and good. Which is a good balance to have especially when I know as a parent we can altogether focus on the bad.This book does a thorough job on teaching on sex from a biblical standpoint. It is refreshing to have a book that is able to go through the Bible and pull out examples from scripture and talk about it. The topics are mature and grown up topics that are hard reality. I feel like oversimplification of sex can lead kids astray or even more curious. With this book I do get that they encourage lots of education not only for the kids to more aware but also gives the kids and parents the freedom to ask and talk about the more serious things in life.As a parent who usually tries to dodge out of fear this topic in particular, I feel like this book equips me to be more confident for when my kid does being up this topic. I have learned it is a topic that needs to be discussed as organically as possible. I want my kid to feel safe to ask me anything....and not have to find answers about this elsewhere. This is a great book to utilize.

The authors do a great job examining the Scriptures and providing a comprehensive framework in which to understand sex and how God sees it. These 3 books by Sherri Warner Hunter were just a repeat of each other. They used the same photos and same write ups.It was a waste of money to purchase all three.

And create things based on ideas from this book! The author is an accomplished artist utilizing concrete in many forms. Most of the pictures in the book are tributes to her accomplishments, and she has provided quite a variety of projects to support her processes. The book describes step-by-step accounts of many, many different styles of concrete work. It also provides numerous concrete recipes depending on the use and region for climate exposure. Altogether, it is not cumbersome yet is still comprehensive in coverage.I would like to see Ms Warner Hunter create a how-to book on creating hypertufa fairy houses, which is my ultimate goal in concrete art. I would also like to know if she has ever discovered a sealant capable of protecting exterior projects in harsh Minnesota winters so some of the heavier projects survive.

I don't really care much at all for most of the modern concrete art in this book, but I still love this book for the ideas it gives me to make my own designs and also explains how to do it.I do a lot of sculpting in clay and am also very much into gardening, and have now found a new medium for making beautiful ornaments, planters, furniture for my garden and also things I can make as gifts using concrete mixtures. The best part of this book for me is how it demonstrates how to create various forms and armatures to allow your ideas to become real. The photographs are plentiful and give you a very clear idea of how it's done.I have Sherri Hunter's first book on Creating With Concrete, but I like this one even more. Great fun book!

OK... let me start off by saying I don't usually take the time to do this sort of thing---writing reviews. This book deserves some of my time tho. I saw a gal on a craft show one morning making the leaf stone. I was fascinated to say the least. Then when I was looking for a book on mosaics for another project I stumbled upon this book by accident. I remembered the show and the beautiful leaf imprint. I ended up buying both of them. I'm very happy I did. There is tons of projects in this affordable craft book to keep me busy for a long time. Many color pics too with detailed instructions and ideas on how to improvise for materials. I really don't see how anyone that is a passionate crafter wouldn't love this book. Several of my friends already want to borrow it... but I'm afraid they'll be waiting for a long time. >grin

This book contained a lot of information and was more than I was looking for. I would say that this book is directed more towards concrete art projects rather than diy/crafty projects. It covers everything up to and including large concrete sculptures. Needless to say it is more than I need, but it is good to have the information nonetheless.Most of the projects included aren't really my style, but the techniques could be easily adapted to fit any style.

I've been getting into concrete this past year, creating flower pots and leaves, and I wanted to expand a bit. This book had some good ideas and may be totally inspirational for some people, but i wasn't 'wowed' with it. Still, i found it had good construction techniques and a few good ideas so I did keep it.

I was a little worried when I received the book: Glossy pages full of colored photographs often suggest that the contents may be rather light on substance. Not so here! The author filled the book with solid information and helpful hints for anyone who has never worked with concrete, in fact the contents goes far beyond the beginner stage. I bought the book to help me with building bases for my sundials but the book has inspired me to try some other projects. Highly recommended!

This hike book is the worst one I have ever encountered – and I have purchased dozens of hike books for many places over the years. I am not a novice hiker. The maps are bad. There are no elevation gradients. . Which is necessary in the up down up of many trails. The directions to the trailheads are pathetic. If you want to find a trailhead, why must you go to three or four other hikes to get there? In addition, the descriptions along the trails may be good for a seasoned Kauai hiker but not for a first time visitor. If you do not know the tree species what good does it do to tell me to “turn left at the Koa tree.”I left my copy there –should have just pitched it in the trash. . A monumental waste of time.

We barely used this one on our trip. It may be good for someone who wants to know specific info on the trails, but we used what we called the blue bible. Ultimate Kauai Guidebook.I think the format was poor and difficult to read while exhausted from our adventures.

A trail guide should do two things:1. Accurately describe, in detail, trails, access, condition, etc.2. Inspire the reader to hike said trailsKauai Trails: Walks, Strolls, and Treks on the Garden Island is mediocre when it comes to the first, and horrible when it comes to the second.The author seems to do her best to convince a hiker planning a trip to Kauai that (s)he should visit California instead. She rails on about garbage, introduced species, erosion, hippies, etc throughout the entire books. Let's keep it to one chapter, Kathy!Worst of all, she bashes the Kalalau Trail, discouraging any Kauai visitor from hiking it. Nevermind that it's ranked one of the best hikes on the planet. Nevermind that on every internet hiking forum, trip reports are invariably glowing. Nevermind that many people who live on Kauai or visit Kauai regularly think it's a DON'T MISS hike. Kathy says, "It's overrated. Don't bother."I'm sad that we don't have a guide to hiking the Garden Isle that's more positive and informative, better organized, with better maps...one that actually makes you think you'll have an enjoyable time hiking in paradise.Purchase this book only because it's the best one there is, not because it's good. I personally recommend The Ultimate Kauai Guidebook. While it doesn't go into as much detail on the trails, it's far more informative, positive, and better updated. Kathy's book lists many trails as CLOSED which aren't closer, or may be damaged but are still hikable.

Book is helpful and nicely laid out. Liked that it contained some walks along with moderate to Strenuous hikes. Some of the cultural comments are inappropriate and need to be excluded. Ordered for my kindle, and received with the wrong cover. Cover reads Long Trails of the Southeast. This book is Kaua'i Trails: Walks Strolls and Treks on the Garden Island.

We just returned from a vacation in Kauai and found this book very helpful. We're not hard core hikers but we like to stroll the beaches and wander down a path or two and this book was very helpful in determining which hikes were "at our level" or not. The author is right on with the assessments of levels of difficulty and time it took on the hikes we took.

A poor choice ;rambling with very confusing maps and directions.We have been to the island several times; the book does not reflect our experience.While we have no doubt the author is quite familiar with the trails, the clarity did not come through in the book.

Great Little book packed with detailed and very useful info. I should never get lost again hiking on Kauai. Mahalo.

This was one of two books we used while hiking Kauai. The description of floral and birds one might see on certain trails was extremely good. Since we are birders this was very beneficial. Excellent text and very detailed.

I'm a fan of Becki's and enjoy her books. I can easily imagine the scenes and emotions of the characters. I'm there with them. I look forward to her next book. If you haven't read her other books, you should!

I ordered two of these, for my husband and for me, as we embarked on a glycemic load eating plan. The size is nice and it seems to be comprehensive. Unfortunately, they are not what I was looking for and I'm returning them.First of all, the introduction states that all items listed are given in 100 gram values. Do you know how much an average orange weighs in grams? How about a cup of milk? Saltines? Got your scale and calculator?It was probably amended from a glycemic index to be used to determine glycemic load. This is probably a more accurate way describing quantities, but not a realistic way in the world that I live in. Not so much a problem with meats, but very confusing with carbohydrates. It allows for comparisons but not an effective way to track glycemic load.

I was looking for a good glycemic load guide for low-carb/fasting/keto lifestyle. This is definitely not it. It is woefully inadequate. While giving a whole list of cereal brands it doesn't give you a simple reading for a basic bread like Ezekiel 4:9 bread. Several cakes are listed but not even something as simple as chocolate. There is no listing in the dairy section for cream or half n' half, and one of the most basic beans in the world, black beans, is not even listed. I probably won't send it back because the shipping would take up most of what I paid for it, but if you think you will get an adequate GL guide here, you will not.

I am in total agreement with the other reviewers who gave this book a single star. Wish I could go lower, because the obviously incorrect information may well harm someone's health- or at least sabotage their effort to establish a healthy diet- if they follow the authors advice. There are many confusing and contradictory statements such as on page 13 in discussing: What is a Portion she states: " A small glass or carton of fruit juice. This only counts as one portion per day NO MATTER HOW MUCH YOU DRINK because the fiber is removed in the process of making juice". ARE YOU SERIOUS???On page 20 she states that you should " base your meals on starchy foods" and "these foods should make up about one third of your daily intake." AGAIN, ARE YOU SERIOUS???Not sure what kind of "doctor" she is, but not a medical doctor. (significant clue is the "Dr." BEFORE her name, not her name followed by an MD or DO designation).Save your money and don't buy this book. I highly recommend you purchase "THE GLYCEMIC LOAD DIET COOKBOOK" BY ROB THOMPSON, MD. and Dana Carpenter. Well worth the money and based on documented research.

I bought this as a companion to the GL Load index diet book. While it is far more extensive than what the book provides, it does not go far enough. Eight hundred (800) foods sounds like a lot but it is not. However, it was enough to give me ideas as to what has a high GL and what does not. If you read the GL diet book and "The New Glucose Revolution" you will find that it is hard to really measure the load because of the testing methods. Perhaps that is why they can list only 800 foods.I like the book because the lay out is excellent - large type face, easy to read columns, simple explanations about the GL without over doing it.I rated it as a 3 because of the limitations. However, I would recommend it as a handy reference, especially if you can get it inexpensively through Amazon.

I thought it would be a handy complement to Dr. Rob Thompson's books, but it isn't. Buy his books instead.

I am extremely interested in the Glycemic Load principle, and have been looking for a pocket guide with the amounts of each food. This booklet is USELESS. I am surprised that a publisher even allowed her to put it on the market!!! I see she lived in the UK, but she gives such a crazy list of foods. My family just moved back from living in the UK, and they laughed at it. Strange foods in it, but nothing much for normal stuff. i.e. Beets. She has the glycemic load for fresh beets, but no mention of canned beets. How many of us cook raw beets for a salad????

Good general information and generic information in the beginning about portion size however when you go to the listings it doesn't list the Portion size associated to it's calculations for its calories, fat, carbs, GL/GI. Very disappointing.

I fully believe this GL book will be of greater use. It gives the food counts on regular every day food items. On the other hand, the GI book will be of equal importance when my glucose level drops too much. Thanks for the great book!
