I work as a Financial Systems Analyst for an international law firm, so I'm constantly building business application using MS Access, Excel, SQL Server, which involve heavy VBA and T-SQL. I picked up this book on Amazon for 10 bucks, and it was a well spent 10 bucks.This book provides many useful tips and tricks on how to attack different problems we encounter in our work today. Despite that some of the VBA procedures have flaws (For instance, 6-9 Using Transaction Processing - Procedure rollback_error_record_and_continue. If you have two records that have negative values in a row, instead of ignore the negative records, it will skip only the first one and continue to calculate the result for the second record), I would still recommend the book to everyone as the topics the book covered are very practical.
If you do a lot of serious Microsoft Access database programming using queries, recordsets, Structured Query Language and VBA programming, this is an excellent reference manual to have up on your bookshelf. If you are a novice Access database user, this book will probably baffle more than it will assist. It's designed for the programmer who already has a good working knowledge of Access and wants to expand their abilities in what the database can really do with your data. The book contains excellent suggestions for manipulating and displaying your data in new ways. Each example is well written, clearly described with illustrations and followed up with a discussion on what was just done, how it was done and why it did what it did. I have already read 1/3 of the book and come away with several OMG inspirations that I will definitely use in future databases. Even though it was written for Office 2003, the lessons still apply to the most current revision of Access.
This book is compatible for Access 2007 and 2003(title of book doesn't let you know that), what it does is answer questions that the author poses. Many of these scenarios are relevant. I have never bought an o'reilly cookbook previously, but this book is very refreshing especially when you look at the current books out there. This book isn't for new people, this book is for people who want real solutions to the problems that they might face. If your looking for a first book to get a real grasp of access, get Access 2007 Inside and Out, if your someone who has read a book or two, or has some experience but still runs into hurdles in data manipulation, get this book.
Older book but still works with the current version especially if you are developing with MS Access.
This book is a great desktop reference if you use MS Access for reporting. If you have never used a technical cookbook, make sure that you stop by a local book store so you can familiarize you self with the layout. It's not a book that you just sit down and read cover to cover, but more of an index for common problems and solutions.
